Production Number: 098 Original Air Date: 05-13-05 Stardates: 47457.1 Synopsis: Aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, the unexpected arrival of Admiral Pressman, Commander William T. Riker's former commanding officer, puts Riker in an awkward test of his loyalties, and Counsellor Deanna Troi suggests he watch a historic holodeck program to get some perspective on following orders. On the holodeck, Riker views the final mission of the United Earth starship Enterprise NX-01, leading up to the signing of the Federation Charter in 2161. On the way to Earth, Captain Jonathan Archer receives a message from the Andorian Shran, who everyone thought had died three years earlier. Shran reveals that he and Jhamel had a daughter, Talla, five years ago, and their daughter has been kidnapped by former business associates, who are holding her at a trading outpost on Rigel Ten. The kidnappers think Shran has stolen a flawless Tenebian amethyst, and want him to return it for his daughter. The Enterprise NX-01 crew helps Shran get his daughter back, but Commander Tucker dies while trying to stop the kidnappers from killing Captain Archer. The Enterprise NX-01 returns to Earth, and Captain Archer gives a speech to the gathered delegates before the signing of the Charter. After viewing the program and interacting with the crew of the Enterprise NX-01, Commander Riker makes a decision to tell Captain Picard the truth about the illegal cloaking device that Admiral Pressman was testing aboard the U.S.S.
