| Episode Title: "The Best of Both Worlds" Part II Production Number: 175 Original Air Date: Week of 09-26-90 Stardates: 44001.4, 44002.3 Synopsis: The U.S.S. Enterprise attacks the Borg ship that has captured and assimilated Captain Picard, using an energy beam from its deflector dish, but the attack has no effect. With the Enterprise disabled, the Borg ship resumes its course for Earth. Admiral J. P. Hanson has mobilized a fleet of 40 starships at Wolf 359, and has asked the Klingons to send warships. Hanson gives Riker a field promotion to captain, and Riker makes Lt. Commander Shelby his first officer. By the time the Enterprise reaches the Wolf 359 system, the Federation Starfleet has been destroyed. Riker contacts the Borg, who have made Picard their spokesman, Locutus. Riker attacks the Borg ship, providing a distraction for a shuttle to penetrate the Borg electromagnetic field and beam Locutus back. Dr. Crusher works to undo the Borg assimilation and restore Captain Picard, and Lt. Commander Data analyzes the subspace signals between Locutus and the Borg Collective. Data is able to access the Borg Collective consciousness and issue a sleep command; the Borg ship goes into a regeneration state, before the malfunction causes the ship to self-destruct. The Enterprise heads to Earth Station McKinley for repairs, and Lt. Commander Shelby leaves to join a task force to rebuild the Federation Starfleet. Alien Races: Borg, El-Aurian Starships: *U.S.S.
