Synopsis: After the destruction of the I.S.S. Enterprise, Commander Archer takes the futuristic U.S.S. Defiant from the Tholians and, after picking up the Enterprise survivors from escape pods and restoring the Defiant's systems, he joins the Terran Empire's assault fleet, which is fighting a rebellion including Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites. The Defiant's advanced weapons quickly defeat the rebel fleet. When Admiral Black refuses to give Archer command of the Defiant, Archer kills the admiral and plans to use the Defiant and the admiral's ship, the I.S.S. Avenger, to overthrow the Terran Empire. Archer transfers most alien officers to the I.S.S. Avenger to avoid any mutinies aboard his new ship, but Commander T'Pol conspires with Dr. Phlox and the Avenger's Commander Soval to sabotage the Defiant before Archer can use its technology to kill the emperor and assume the throne.

Factoid: According to the Defiant's historical records, Hoshi Sato created the linguacode translation matrix in her late 30s, and two planets were named after Jonathan Archer in the Federation Universe.

Factoid: Alien slaves working for the Tholians are captured aboard the U.S.S. Defiant, including their Gorn slave master, Slar.
